IT Sligo on April 3rd 4th and 5th 2009

The Archaeology Society in IT Sligo will this year host the 41ST AYIA Conference in April on the 3rd, 4th and 5th .

This is the first time Sligo IT will host the conference. The AYIA (Association of Young Irish Archaeologists) was founded in Belfast in 1968 to provide a forum where "young" archaeologists can discuss new ideas and to create enthusiasm and interest in the field of archaeology at a "young" level. It also aids in creating links to further communication and co-operation between the different universities and colleges of Ireland and Northern Ireland where the conference is held each year. The term "young" is loosely applied here. There is no age limit to the participants in this conference. The term young is applied here to mean those who are young in the profession. Undergraduates, postgraduates and those professionals new to archaeology or other related disciplines are more than welcome to present talks on an area of archaeology that interests them. This conference is also open to all members of the public who would like to attend.

We have an opening lecture on Friday evening, by Robert Hensey followed by a night of food and entertainment (included in the cost)Saturday shows host to a variety of subjects dealing with all aspects of Archaeology with lunch included. Sunday will be occupied with the Field Trip to Carrowmore's Megalithic Complex hosted by local expert Sam Moore.

The organising committee of this year's AYIA is headed by Amy Bunce and Liza Kavanagh who are both in their third year of studying archaeology at IT Sligo.
