Humboldt county residents are invited to join the Friends and Staff of Humboldt Bay NWR for the 8th Annual Fly-Off and Family Fun Days, held March 6th and 7th, 2010 rain or shine. Watch 1000's of geese lift off from thier night roost and fly through the air! The gates will open at 5:30 AM both days to give participants plenty of time to get out on the trail to see the fly-off and interact with naturalists at interpretive stations along the trail. Each station will teach participants more about the Aleutian Geese, wetlands, migration or the refuge. The fly-off usually occurs within 15 minutes before or after sunrise. Coffee and a bake sale raising funds for the Friends of Humboldt Bay NWR will be ongoing from 5:30 AM to noon.

Children’s activities will start at 8:00 AM and end at noon. This year’s activities will include story telling, a Quest, decoy painting, birdhouse building, a pondwater microscope and a migration madness game.

As the Fly-off is a popular event, we encourage everyone to carpool to ease parking congestion on the refuge.
