LEAP INTO HEALTH AT THE 7TH ANNUAL HOLISTIC HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR


Discover local resources that support and enhance health and vitality at the 7th Annual Amador County Holistic and Wellness Fair. The event will be held Saturday, Jan. 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Amador Senior Center, 229 New York Ranch Rd in Jackson.

Admission is free.


Local practitioners of aromatherapy, body work, childbirth education, meditation, hypnosis, homeopathy and many other disciplines will be sharing information, offering free demonstrations, discounting products and offering discounts for future services during the fair.

Starting at noon, guest speakers are scheduled every 30 minutes to educate and inform on a variety of timely health and healing topics.

New to this year’s fair are a quite massage room, a local food market and a documentary on how we can change our current unhealthy food system.

The Massage Retreat, hosted by Davina’s Healing Hands Massage and Bodywork, allows visitors to enjoy a free mini massage away from the hustle and bustle of the fair in a softly lit room filled with soothing music playing.

The Food Market, hosted by Mother Lode Harvest and the Amador Farmers Market, features an extensive inventory of local food and products for sale as well as an opportunity to join the co-op for fresh, organic food each week.

Alice Kaiser of Casa de la Pradera Bed and Breakfast and Organic Farm in Fiddletown has created a simple and affordable lunch menu featuring organic, locally grown products for fair attendee to enjoy. The menu includes vegan black bean soup and vegetarian winter squash soup, and free ranch chicken soup for $2.50/cup as well as frittata with potatoes and greens, gluten free cornbread, whole wheat sourdough bread and honey walnut cake.

At 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., there will be a special showing of “FRESH,” an inspirational documentary about how we can make small changes to transform our polluted, unhealthy food system. Admission to the movie is $5 per person and all proceeds benefit the Interfaith Food Bank.


Organizers Brandy Astwood, clinical hypnotherapist and owner of Motherlode Holistic Connection in downtown Jackson, and Michelle Grondin a popular massage therapist and manager of the Amador Farmers Market, planned the event to coincide with the new year and people’s renewed interest in self care.


Last year, many area residents and visitors who attended the fair booked appointments for ongoing services from the exhibitors. The healing atmosphere and the chance to relax and learn in a peaceful environment were enjoyed by visitors. As a result of the fair, some people changed their approach to health care - combining alternative approaches with conventional medicine. Others found holistically oriented primary caregivers to advise them on lifestyle, diet, exercise and other ways to improve their health throughout the year. The goal is to achieve and maintain new levels of wellness.


The Holistic Health and Wellness Fair is a unique opportunity for area residents to find out about the array of alternative health services available locally and to meet those who practice these arts. Children are welcome.
