California’s oldest Armenian Church will open the Third Week of the Advent Season with a modern musical Nativity Play.

The Sunday School Children of Fresno’s First Armenian Presbyterian Church will present “Angels Aware!” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2010. The play will be presented in the Church Sanctuary, 430 South First Street, just one block west of the Historic Huntington Boulevard Candlelight Christmas.

The play and a post-play spaghetti dinner are free and open to the public. The families of Angel Tree, a project of the international Prison Fellowship Ministry, will be special guests at the play and dinner.

“Angels Aware!” is a multimedia musical telling the story of the Christ Child from the Heavenly perspective. A cast of angelic characters explains what will happen on the first Christmas through a blend of Biblical dialogue, warm humor, and contemporary songs.

Composers Kathie Hill and Janet McMahan wrote “Angels Aware!” in 1984 and Word Music has published 45-minute musical for more than a quarter century.

“Angels Aware!” is one of more than 20 ministry events marking the birth of the Christ Child at FAPC. A free Advent Calendar of events is available by calling (559) 237-6638 or e-mailing fapc@fapc.net. Advent is a season of expectant waiting and preparation in the Christian Church for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus of Nazareth.

Chartered on July 25, 1897, the multigenerational, multilingual congregation has more than 400 members drawn from the Old and New Worlds. Reverend Mgrdich Melkonian is the Senior Pastor of the Church; Reverend Eric E. Thompson is Interim Associate Pastor; and Mrs. Arpi Keledjian is the Director of “Angels Aware!”

FAPC is a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Armenian Evangelical Union of North America. The 2010 theme of the congregation is “A New Creation.”
