Keynote introduction by Dr. Bill Ferris, professor of history at UNC-Chapel Hill and an adjunct professor in the Folklore Curriculum. He is associate director of the Center for the Study of the American South, and is widely recognized as a leader in Southern studies, African-American music and folklore.

Ferris is the former chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Prior to his role at NEH, Ferris served as the founding director of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi.

Ferris has written and edited 10 books and created 15 documentary films, most of which deal with African-American music and other folklore representing the Mississippi Delta. He co-edited the Pulitzer Prize nominee Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, which contains entries on every aspect of Southern culture and is widely recognized as a major reference work linking popular, folk, and academic cultures.
Food, provided by The Barbecue Joint, will be available for purchase along with wine, beer and soft drinks.
Come early to enjoy visiting with friends and neighbors; then grab a good seat - or eight. ChathamArts extends the opportunity for your business to get some excellent exposure by sponsoring a table for the event ($500 for 8 seats, dinners and beverages.) Or, as “Friends of Bluegrass” you can reserve your seat for $30. Why not get several friends together and reserve a whole section while showing your support of ChathamArts?
The Bluegrass Experience plays to a sell-out crowd every time they perform at the Fearrington Barn. So, here's a tasty tip: buy your tickets early.
