Archaeological Sites Of The Great Inca Trail Are Declared Cultural Heritage May 3, 2010

Two sets colonial religious and 74 prehistoric archaeological monuments, registered under the Qhapaq Nan Project, have just been declared as cultural heritage of this nation, as part of a project which aims to place the Great Inca Trail Heritage List Sites of Unesco.

By two resolutions, the National Institute of Culture (INC) declared the nation's cultural heritage to the chapel of San Juan Bautista de Tarucani, in the department of Arequipa (southern coast), and the chapel Villa Kuchuhuasi Conceived in the department Cuzco (southeast), Efe reported.
Other provisions also published in the official gazette El Peruano, the INC said cultural and 74 archaeological monuments located in the departments of La Libertad, and Lima ncash (coast) and Pasco (center) and Huancavelica (south).

All these archaeological monuments were recorded in 2004 and 2005 as part of Yum Qhapac Program, which seeks to recover and value the vast network of roads built by the Incas.

The Great Inca Trail, linking the domains of the Empire and currently covers six South American countries, aims to join the World Heritage Site in 2012, if successful initiatives of the Andean countries.
