Join Alcohol & Drug Services of Gallatin County for their National Recovery Month “Ask a Counselor” community event, September 26th from 6 to 8 PM at the Bozeman Public Library. Join Kerry Erickson and counselors Rick Winking, Paula Mills and Vicki DeBoer to ask the questions you’ve wanted about recovering from addiction to alcohol and other drugs as well as mental health.
Is addiction is a treatable disease? Is alcoholism the same as alcohol-dependent? Are all addictions the same? Do Treatment Centers work? What is recovery and is it really possible?
Substance abuse disorder impacts every aspect of our community. More than 97,000 Montanans and their families are affected by it. In Gallatin County alone, there are over 10,000 residents with substance abuse or dependence. Nationally, 23 million people aged 12 or older needed treatment for a substance use disorder in the United States in 2007 and as many as 20.8 million people nationwide needed but did not receive treatment at a specialty facility. Montana ranks first in the nation for 12-17 year olds needing but not receiving help for substance use. Substance use and mental disorders touch everyone in one way or another, regardless of age, gender, workplace, geography or socio-economic level.
Enjoy an open conversation and good treats. A celebration of the twenty-second anniversary of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month (Recovery Month), “Ask a Counselor” is co-sponsored by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. In offering this event, ADSGC extends an offer of hope: Prevention works, treatment is effective, and people do recover. It is possible for people impacted by addiction to become productive, healthy members of our community.
