A first in Grand Junction, High Desert Opera will present Gilbert & Sullivan’s, "The Sorcerer" in July at The Robinson Theatre at Mesa State College.
Open auditions are scheduled for March 28th and 29th. High Desert Opera’s Artistic Director, Jim Werner is working on filling the cast with local talent. Call Jim at 970-270-7989 to schedule your audition time.
Singers are asked to prepare a classical piece, in English, no more than 5 minutes.
There are 8 principle roles (4 men & 4 woman) and the chorus to cast.
"The Sorcerer" -
Alexis, son of Sir Pointdextre & Aline, daughter of Lady Sangazure, find being in love an earthly joy. Alexis believes that marriage is the cure for every ill. Aline agrees and to Alexis' delight he announces his plans to buy a love potion from a very reputable family of sorcerers. Aline is a bit frightened by the whole idea.
The philtre (potion) affects only those who are unmarried. It is given to every villager. Resulting in everyone falling in love with the wrong person.
