ABOUT US:
The Crossmen World Class Drum Corps was formed as a result of the merger in 1975 between to smaller drum corps in the outskirts of Philadelphia, the 507 Hornets and Keystone Regiment. In 2007 the Crossmen moved the corps to their new home base in San Antonio, TX, becoming Texas' lone World Class drum corps competing in the ranks of Drum Corps International (DCI). Crossmen World Class Drum Corps have grown to become a perennial DCI World Champion Finalist, placing in the World Championship Finals 22 times in the corps history.
DCI is a non-profit youth organization serving drum corps around the globe which perform a 9-11 minute show of music, dance and drill with the highest level of precision, athleticism, artistry and power.
Amateur participants are between the ages of 14 and 22 who begin their season in November with auditions. Once membership of 150 performers is determined, a corps will spend from late May and early June rehearsing 8 to 12 hours a day, with the touring season beginning in mid-June. Their May and June training takes place at Blossom Atheletic Center.
How long is Crossmen Tour?
The Crossmen tour is approximately 3 months long (including spring training). Four-week Spring Training (at Blossom Athletic Center) begins Memorial Day weekend and tour will follow and continue through August 15th.
What is the cost to run a Drum Corps?
Each year, it costs over one million dollars for each Drum Corps in DCI to travel down the road. Our members are required to pay tuition and members fees that cover the costs of instruction, food, housing, transportation, equipment, uniforms for tour, camps, and spring training. With all of these factors included, the total cost for each performer is approximately $2,800 for the year.
Member tuitions cover approximately 40% of the actual costs. The balance is raised by the Crossmen 501(c)(3) non-profit through corporate sponsorship, appearance fees, merchandise sales, and charitable gifts.
