Believe it or not, the universe's myriad wonders, from distant galaxies to exploding stars, can be seen with modest optical equipment even from suburban locations - once you know where to look. We'll practice identifying constellations with star maps and planispheres and we'll look at star clusters, nebulas, and the Andromeda Galaxy with the aid of easy-to-use telescopes. We'll take a slide-show tour of the universe and learn about using and choosing binoculars and telescopes for backyard stargazing. Please dress warmly (in removable layers) and bring binoculars, blanket and/or reclining chair, if you have them. The class meets regardless of weather. Astronomy activities that can be pursued indoors will be available in case of cloudy weather. - - Open to anyone age 16 or older, and children age 9 or older with an adult. Fees apply to all participants. Registration is required. Call 781-259-2200 for details. See http://www.massaudubon.org/catalog/listing.php?program_code=1219-DFP10FA1 for more information.
