The concert Ave Regina: Women’s Musical Creations in Convent and Accademia will be presented on Sunday, January 23 at 3:30 p.m.. at Slosberg Music Center, Brandeis University as the closing concert of a weekend-long “fest-conference” organized by the Women’s Studies Research Center. Soprano Janet Youngdahl and mezzo soprano Pamela Dellal are joined by harpsichordist Vivian Montgomery and violist da gamba Laury Gutierrez in a program of works from 17th-century Italian composers Barbara Strozzi, Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, and Isabella Leonarda. This dramatic yet intimate repertoire covers the full range of feminine themes, from the lament to the Virgin Mary to the discontented lover, and the performance delivers the ardor and creativity of the protected contexts from which this music emanates. A reception will be held following the concert. Further conference information, registration, and concert tickets can be found at http://rebeccaclarke.org/abhoh/.
