Join Dr. Gordon Frankie, a professor and research entomologist in the Division of Insect Biology, College of Natural Resources, University of California, Berkeley, for this fun and informative seminar about bees and bee-loving plants. A powerpoint presentation on the ecology and behavior of native bees in urban CA gardens will be presented. An overview of nesting requirements will lead to a discussion of habitat gardening for bee pollinators and other flower visitors. Learn key characteristics for identifying the common bee groups with demonstration material. Finally, we will use the meadow garden to observe some of the items discussed indoors. Gordon's specialty is behavioral ecology of solitary bees in wildland and urban environments of California and Costa Rica. Online registration available.
