Folk Lute and Electronics

Jozef van Wissem hat eine Mission: er kämpft um die Anerkennung der
alt hergebrachten Laute als zeitgenössisches Instrument. Dabei bedient er
sich moderner kompositorischer Elemente und kombiniert Alte Musik mit
Elektronik. Er experimentiert mit gespiegelten Partituren und Palindromen.
Diese Mixtur aus akademischen, musikwissenschaftlichen Ansätzen
einerseits und merkwürdig eigenbrötlerischen Ideen andererseits macht
den Niederländer zu einem echten Faktotum.
"It's all about communicating between different styles, personalities,
backgrounds. It's not up to me to say I fit in any community really."
Van Wissem wandelt gern zwischen den Welten und hat in der
Vergangenheit mit den unterschiedlichsten künstlerischen Charakteren
zusammengearbeitet. So gab es Kollaborationen mit Akteuren aus
Industrial, Country und Horrorfilm.
Man darf bei der Präsentation seines fünften Albums „A rose by any other
name“ im Belleville also gespannt sein. Gespannt auf "archaic waves,
ancient loops and primitive electronics" (The Wire),
auf eigenwilliges Virtuosentum, auf schöne und selten gehörte Musik.

Folk Lute and Electronics

Jozef Van Wissem has a mission: he fights for the recognition of the
traditional lute as a contemporary instrument. Therefore he uses modern
elements of composition and combines early music with electronics.
He experiments with mirrored scores and palindromes.
This mixture of academic, musicological approach and peculiar, solitary
ideas make this Dutch musician a factotum.
'It's all about communicating between different styles, personalities,
backgrounds. It's not up to me to say I fit in any community really.
Van Wissem likes to drift between genres and has collaborated with all
sorts of different artists such as interpreters of Industrial, Country and
horror film.
Belleville is proud to present his promising fifth album
„A rose by any other name“: Promising 'archaic waves, ancient loops
and primitive electronics' (The Wire) by a peculiar virtuoso,
simply beautiful and rare music.
