Behind the Moving Image is a condensed workshop that breaks down the technology, techniques, styles and theories behind the cinematographic practice over a two-day series of lectures, demonstrations, screenings and discussions. A comprehensive overview of the tools of cinematography, and how they can be combined and controlled to help tell a story, create a mood, and convey an emotion, will be of central focus. Special attention will be given to lens characteristics, lighting techniques, compositional skills, and the implications of camera movements, with the aim of providing a balanced introduction to the practical and theoretical sides to this specialized form of artistic expression.
