The Johanna Meier Opera Theatre Institute will present Gala Celebration of the Arts Saturday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall on the campus of Black Hills State University. The program includes short selections from the worlds of music, dance, theatre, and literature. Featured performers will include the winners of the Young Performers Competition held June 10.

Scenes from Bernstein’s “West Side Story” will be performed by soprano Carissa Scroggins from Rapid City, tenor Tyler Raad, recent BHSU music and theatre graduate from Spearfish, and Black Hills Dance Centre dancers.

Arrangements of operatic arias by composer Franz Liszt will be performed by renowned pianist Eugene Gienger. Carol Panerio, Spearfish, will present a literary reading from her recently published novel, and dancers from the Academy of Dance Arts will perform a ballet selection. A reception will follow the performance. Cocktail or business attire is suggested. Tickets will be available at the door; $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.
