Black Hills Research Symposium March 15, 2010

The 12th Annual Black Hills Research Symposium to showcase Black Hills State University undergraduate research will be held in the Clare and Josef Meier Hall on the BHSU campus from March 16-18. In addition to showcasing BHSU student research, the symposium will present a keynote address by Dr. David H. Autor from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Economics on March 18 at 12:45 p.m. in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall.

Autor will present U.S. Labor Market during and “The Great Recession” during the keynote address. Autor, who holds a Ph.D. from Harvard and is editor in chief of the Journal of Economic Perspectives, has published widely on a variety of labor related topics such as human capital and earnings inequity, labor market impacts of technological change, contingent and intermediated work arrangements, health, disability and labor supply as well as employment protection and labor market operation.

The symposium is a showcase for undergraduate research conducted at BHSU and other institutions in the Black Hills across various disciplines. The symposium continues to afford students a unique opportunity to work closely with a faculty sponsor in developing a research project suitable for presentation to the public. Posters describing the faculty-mentored research of BHSU undergraduates will be displayed from Tuesday-Thursday, March 16-18, in the main hallway of Meier Hall. Poster presenters will be on hand to answer questions in regard to their respective research from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17.

The public is invited to join BHSU faculty, students, and staff for the student research oral presentations Thursday, March 18 in the Meier Recital Hall from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. A reception will be held in the Meier Hall lobby at noon, followed by student awards presented by President Kay Schallenkamp at 12:30 p.m. They keynote speaker presentation will begin at 12:45 p.m.
