'The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears' takes place in Washington, D.C., in the 1970s and tells the story of African immigration through three main characters -- narrator Sepha Stephanos, an Ethiopian immigrant who runs a corner grocery story and his friends, Joseph, from the Congo, and Kenneth, from Kenya.
