Join us for a memorable evening on Sunday, September 13, 2009, in the Chapel of St. Michael Villa, atop the Jersey Palisades, overlooking the location of Henry Hudson's Half Moon on September 13, 1609, for Broken Arrows: A Concert for Peace Among Peoples. Donation: $50 per person. A reception will be held at 6 PM, followed by the concert at 7 PM. This special musical celebration of the Hudson Quadricentennial 1609-2009 will feature John Burkhalter and Donovan Klotzbeacher as The Practitioners of Musick, performing music from Holland’s Golden Age on harpsichord and recorders. Past BCHS President Kevin Wright, author of the forthcoming book, 1609, A Country That Was Never Lost, will present two readings on behalf of the Native Peoples, comprising a rare excerpt from Henry Hudson's own log, describing his repast with the Mahicans on September 18, 1609, and Hackensack sachem Tantaqua’s telling of the Algonquian story of creation in 1679. Firth Haring Fabend (her most recent book, Land So Fair) is co-chair of the event.

This Hudson 400 event is co-sponsored by the Bergen County Historical Society, the Holland Society of New York and New York 2009! (Dutch by Design). The concert also honors the 125th anniversary of Sister Margaret Anna Cusack’s founding of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in 1884. St. Michael Villa is located at 399 Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632.
