The Broken Bucket Run 2012

Raising Awareness for Depression and Suicide in the Goldfields Region

What is the Broken Bucket Run?

The Broken Bucket Run is a community event organized by Mates4Mates, a local organization for raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention in the Goldfields Region.

In October 2011, one of our co-workers, Rod Marra (Rocket), tragically lost his son Josh to suicide. Soon aftewards, Rod recognized his own need for assistance to work through his grief and was provided with a referral from his GP. After an agonizing 6 week wait to attend an appointment, Rod struggles to reconcile how those faced with a similar situation make it through without the support that he was so lucky to receive.

Rod (Rocket) has participated in several rides and was overwhelmed with the response from the local region. After going on the big journey to the Red Centre in August, Rod suggested we do somethign in our local region to raise awareness and have the funds that we raise go back into our region's public mental health services. No-one should have to wait

Our Aim

The aim of the Bucket Run is to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention services in the Goldfields region. We will be engaging with local service providers to provide local residents the opportunity to seek help if they need it.
