New York, NY-- Lady Circus www.ladycircus.com, a Brooklyn based performing arts troupe specializing in a concoction of riot and glamour, have joined forces with sketch comedy troupe FUCT www.fuctnyc.com to present Cirque du Quoi?!? at 8pm on May 21st and 22nd, May 28th-30th and June 4th-6th at The Skybox at the House of Yes, 342 Maujer Street, Brooklyn, NY (between Morgan Avenue & Waterbury Street, just east of the Grand Street stop on the L train).
In what promises to be a first of its kind and wildly entertaining show, Cirque du Quoi?!? (translated: Circus of What?!?), is a collaboration melding the beauty, grace and widely acclaimed talent of the women of Lady Circus with the twisted, crude and daring, no-rules theatrical comedy of the sketch troupe FUCT. The end result? “A comedic circus of music, aerial stunts, magic and more” said Joe Galan, original member of FUCT.
Founded in 2002, FUCT is a unique form of sketch, with a cult following in NYC, that features games, stunts, music, dance and audience participation with a live rock band and an overall theatrical feel. FUCT is the winner of the 2008 SkitSkat Live Comedy Festival, winner of the critic’s pick from the Charleston City Paper and a regular at NYC venues including Caroline’s, The Broadway Comedy Club and The Cherry Lane Theatre. When not performing in NYC, FUCT is on the road performing at comedy festivals throughout the country and in Canada, and has been called “a must see visiting comedy act” (Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival). At the Chicago Sketch Fest, FUCT was highlighted as “New York's less kid-ready but no less guffaw-inducing late-night party troupe.“ Avid fan George Wendt (Norm/Cheers) calls FUCT, “clever sketch comedy with painful slapstick - as if the three stooges ACTUALLY used pick axes. I loved it!" The Charleston City Paper says, “For anyone with a sense of humor, they’re gold.”
Lady Circus, founded by Anya Sapozhnikova in 2007, is an all female troupe that mixes the elements of Cirque-like spectacle with Brooklyn grit and 1920s gilded decadence. Their alluring shows incorporate aerial acrobatics, stilts, fire, contortion, and much more. Lady Circus was featured in the New York Times in September 2008 in an article called, “Need a Party Livened Up? Try a Fire Eater or Two.” While their home space and full staged show is at The House of YES, Lady Circus also performs at nightclubs, cabarets, galas, parades, art openings and private events.
