White Lotus Society, Rochester’s Tibetan Buddhist Center, is pleased to present a public talk with Khenpo Nyima Gyaltsen from Kagyu College in Dehra Dun, India on Thursday, June 17 at 7:30pm at Rochester Academy of Medicine, 1441 East Avenue, Rochester, NY. There will be an $8.00 donation at the door. The title of the public talk will be Buddhism: Transformative Path to Happiness.
Khenpo Nyima Gyaltsen Rinpoche was born in 1976 in Sha, near Drikung in Central Tibet.
In 1987, he entered Lho Lungkar Monastery in eastern Tibet where he studied the ritual practices under the monastery’s senior lamas for six years. In 1994 he went to Jangchub Ling Monastery in northern India where he began his formal academic studies of Mahayana Buddhism from Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen and other teachers. He has received empowerments and teachings from many of the high lamas in the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism as well as from HH the 14th Dalai Lama.
Nyima Gyaltsen began teaching at Kagyu College in Dehra Dun, India, in 2002 and received the title of Khenpo in 2004. “Khenpo” is an academic title sometimes translated as “abbot.” It signifies a high degree of learning. Khenpo has taught continuously at Kagyu College or at his monastery in Tibet since that time. This will be his second trip to America. In 2008 he taught in several cities in the United States including Buffalo and Syracuse.
