Tickets are sold only on the Monument and are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. The guided tour lasts 90 minutes, and is considered moderately strenuous. It is not recommended for people with heart, breathing, or walking problems. The 0.6 mile (1 km) route includes more than 500 stairs, most of which are steep and uneven. Low passageways require stooping and twisting. Elevation at the Monument is 4,000 ft (1,220 m) above sea level. Although cave tours are seasonal, Oregon Caves National Monument is always open to visitors. Occasionally in winter, snow can temporarily close park roads until they are plowed. Wait times can reach up to two (or more) hours during the summer season. The busiest times are between 11:00 am & 3:00 pm. Earlier or later arrival is recommended.
