Every year the Moon Festival is celebrated on the 15th lunar day of the 8th Chinese lunar month. Traditionally, it is a family holiday, much like Thanksgiving and families gather to watch the full moon rise and enjoy pastries made specifically for the event called “moon cakes.” These small cakes along with hot tea will be available for purchase during the festival.

Join us for a special evening of:
Chinese Storytelling
Calligraphy
Tangram puzzles
Chopstick training
Lantern-making crafts
Traditional songs by San Diego Huaxia Chinese School (Riverside Campus)
View the full moon with high-powered telescopes courtesy of the Riverside Astronomical Society
Cooking demonstration with authentic Chinese cuisine
View Riverside’s Chinatown artifacts and photographs from the Museum’s collections telling the story of what life was like as a Chinese immigrant during the city’s earlier days.

The Festival is done in partnership with
San Diego Huaxia Chinese School, Riverside Campus
