The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music presents MusicNOW! This series presents the edgy, diverse, unique talent that makes up the musical voice of the Brooklyn Conservatory’s immensely talented faculty. For this final concert of the series, award winning composer and trumpeter Chuck MacKinnon of Brooklyn Conservatory’s Music Partners faculty will present his acclaimed, explosive, three horn, jazz sextet Mactet. Featuring noted saxophonists Douglas Yates and Kenny Brooks, Mactet also features Chuck MacKinnon, trumpet and flugelhorn, Art Hirahara, piano, Gary Wand, Bass and Russ Meissner, drums.
About the Chuck MacKinnon
An intriguing talent and an exciting, pioneering artist, trumpeter Chuck MacKinnon is a San Francisco native who came of age performing on the fertile local jazz scene. He earned his stripes sitting in with local piano legend Smith Dobson, and has since forged a respected place in the demanding New York City music world.
MacKinnon has performed around the world with star performers including the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Cab Calloway Orchestra, Joe Henderson, James Moody, Rufus Reid, Randy Brecker, Mark Levine, Bruce Forman, and Sam Rivers, Kenny Brooks and Dred Scott.
