St. Louis’ most talented karaoke singers will gather at 6 p.m., Aug. 25 at Double D Karaoke, 1740 South Brentwood Blvd., for the second annual Clayton Idol, presented by Huntleigh McGehee. The winner is scheduled to perform one song at Parties in the Park in Downtown Clayton, presented by Wells Fargo Advisors, on Sept. 14.
While contestants vie for the title of 2011 Clayton Idol, spectators will vote on their favorite singers by donating to this year’s charity, the Joplin Tornado Relief Fund.
“One of the main goals of Clayton Idol is to raise money for organizations in need,” said Ellen Gale, executive director of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. “When the tornadoes struck Joplin, we knew we wanted to do our part in helping the businesses and residents of Joplin rebuild their community. As a Chamber of Commerce, we understand the economic challenges cities face under normal conditions, much less after a natural disaster.”
The singer that receives the most in donations from audience members will be crowned the 2011 Clayton Idol and have the opportunity to sing one song at Parties in the Park in Downtown Clayton on Sept. 14 when St. Louis A-List band FatPocket takes a break from entertaining the crowd.
Singers must pre-register by Aug. 18 in order to compete for prizes. The cost to participate or attend is $15 and includes a delicious barbecue dinner, two drinks and karaoke fun. Spectators are asked to purchase their tickets by Aug. 22 to reserve a seat and receive the advance price. If space permits, tickets will be available at the door for $20.
Contestants and spectators can register at www.claytoncommerce.com or by calling the Chamber at 314-726-3030. Registration forms will also be available at the Chamber booth during the Aug. 10 Parties in the Park.
