The Colorado Wind Ensemble presents Holidays for Winds on Saturday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 S. Datura St. in Littleton.

The music will be both celebratory and serene, notably featuring the premiere of a new composition, Hold this Boy and Listen, which will be introduced by its composer, Carter Pann. Pann describes his work as "an unusually soft and subdued song for band," embodying the peaceful aspect of the season. The piece was commissioned by the Colorado Wind Ensemble Commissioning Consortium, a unique collaboration between the Colorado Wind Ensemble and eleven Colorado school band programs.

The concert includes the traditional festive music of Leroy Anderson's A Christmas Festival and Holiday Overture by CWE's own Ken Soper. The merrymaking continues with diversions ranging from the glitz of Las Vegas Holiday by Roger Nixon and the dancelike Mediterranean Holiday of Andreas Makris to Aaron Copland's classic Buckaroo Holiday from "Rodeo" and Ron Nelson's sparkling Rocky Point Holiday.

Tickets at the door are $12 general adult, $10 seniors and students, and $6 children 12 and under. Tickets may also be purchased through the website. Please visit the website at www.coloradowindensemble.org or call 303-394-4552 for more information about the CWE.

The Colorado Wind Ensemble is devoted to presenting exceptional performances of music for woodwinds, brass, and percussion to Colorado audiences. The musicians of the CWE present a full season of concerts in Littleton; as well as chamber music, summer concerts, and educational outreach throughout the region. Conductor Matthew J. Roeder, DMA, is the assistant director of bands at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
