Constellation Books Holds Book Talk and Signing October 13, 2007

If you thought book talks about history were boring, think again. Historian and local author, Angela Render cuts to the point when she uses period reproduction weapons in her presentations. “Forged By Lightning: A Novel of Hannibal and Scipio” (Lulu Press, 2004 ISBN: 1411680022) is a historical fiction novel about the Second Punic War.

“The swords started out as a crutch for my stage fright, but they quickly became the focus of the talk. Nothing makes an impression about ancient warfare quite the same as handling the weapons that were used,” Angela says. “Or, more to the point, having a sword in someone else’s hand when you’re in a tight place.”

Angela covers more than battles and weapons in her talks. She carves out a picture of what it was like to live in ancient times. More importantly, she leaves the impression that we are still connected to our past.
