The excitement is building as the Crossmen make their way back toward the East Coast. Originally from Pennsylvania, the Crossmen World Class Drum corps of San Antonio, Texas will make a three-day stop in Pennsylvania to compete in two local shows.
The Twin Valley School District will play host to the Crossmen July 31— August 2, 2008.
On Friday, August 1st at the Twin Valley High School stadium, the Crossmen are inviting anyone from the local area to a sample of their 2008 show entitled ‘Planet X.’ They will be practicing all day long starting at 7:30 am and will do a complete run-through of their show around 8:30 PM Friday night. Admission is free, but the corps will accept donations toward the high fuel costs for their nine-vehicle convoy.
The Crossmen, a non-profit organization with over 140 performers, have a $1 million budget, travel over 11,000 miles in 57 days to compete and perform in 36 events across the country. When they’re not competing, they are practicing to perfect their show and performance.
The Crossmen, were formed as a result of the merger in 1975 between two smaller drum corps in the outskirts of Philadelphia, the 507 Hornets from Norwood, PA and Keystone Regiment from West Chester, PA. The Crossmen World Class Drum Corps has grown to become a perennial Drum Corps International (DCI) World Champion Finalist, reaching the DCI Finals 22 times in the corps' brief 33 year history. The corps is now in their 34 year of existence working toward their 23rd DCI finalist title.
In the fall of 2006, the Crossmen moved operations to San Antonio, Texas from their former home in Pennsylvania, and re-established themselves as an independent organization in the fall of 2007. There will be two competitions in our area, one in West Chester, PA Thursday, July 31st and a two-day competition in Allentown, PA August 1st—2nd.
Crossmen compete in the Saturday show in Allentown and then they pack up the buses, head to Westminster, Maryland for another show, and then on to Bloomington, Indiana for the DCI World Championships.
