Are you interested in direct service volunteering but can't make a long commitment? Volunteer with Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly!
This year, for Passover, we need volunteers to visit elders on any day Monday through Friday April 14 - April 18, spend time with them, and deliver juice, a passover meal, a box of matzah, shabbat candles, yizkor candles, and more to our elders to make these events a success. Passover commemorates the Exodus, the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. Passover marks the "birth" of the Children of Israel who become the Jewish nation. The primary symbol of Passover is the matzo, a flat, unleavened "bread" which recalls the hurriedly-baked bread that the Israelites ate after their hasty departure from Egypt.
Our organization provides companionship to the low-income elderly without family and friends in Boston. We need volunteers for a variety of programs: social events and parties. The primary responsibility of the volunteer is companionship for low-income elders living alone in the city of Boston. Our elders are 70 years or older, live on less than $8,000 a year and have little to no friends or family. We are friendly and willing to work around your interests and availability! This is a particularly great opportunity for people who can only volunteer a couple of hours a month.
Volunteers are ordinary people with extraordinary love and concern for others, contributing their time, talent and energy at an extraordinary time of life. We would be delighted that you are willing to share some of your valuable time, energy and knowledge with us. Your involvement with our organization will help us keep the past alive and accessible to everyone interested in exploring it, yourself included.
If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of our elders, please contact Perry Salmanovich, Volunteer Coordinator, at 617-524-8882 or psalmanovich@littlebrothers.org
Requirements:
In order to be matched with an elder person, Little Brothers/Friends of the Elderly–Boston complies with state regulations that requests information from the Criminal History Systems Board pursuant to Chapter 6 §172C that mandates agencies which accept such individual as a volunteer.
Simply, we require volunteers to complete a CORI. As well, the agency also requires two references.
If you choose to escort elders in your car to our event, we ask for a copy of your drivers license and a copy of proof of insurance.
For more information, to be properly CORI screened and then matched, please contact Perry at 617-524-8882.
