----Dan's Description----

I'm totally excited to announce that I will be opening up for a special guest DJ this saturday at Capones edition of The Beat Club(sometimes known as Alldisco). DJ High Priest is a legend who only recently came out of DJ "retirement". Reportedly the first white hip-hop/"scratch" DJ on the scene, DJ High Priest (Nick Taylor) was first seen cutting, scratching and rocking the records with such old-school hip-hop visionaries as K-Rob, Rammellzee and grafitti artist Phase II. He later joined the downtown avant ensemble Gray with such scene luminaries as Jean-Michael Basquiat, Vincent Gallo and Michael Holman. He took part in Holman's seminal Grafitti Rock TV show and can be found on the bonus footage of it's highly recommended DVD release, in one segment he stands in full track gear, rocking turntables on a card table while K-Rob freestyles in front of him in somebody's living room, in another he rocks doubles of Shack-Up at a gallery opening while Futura 2000 paints. His next moves included the short lived hip-hop duo Trouble Deuce with Prince Vince (aka Vincent Gallo) and finally joining the Death Comet Crew, Stuart Argabright's post-Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight project. High Priest re-emerged in the NY scene in the last few years with the exciting reunion of Death Comet Crew, who will soon be touring Europe and Japan, a photo exhibit of pictures he took during the Mudd Club days, and a few select DJ gigs. At these gigs, DJing for the first time in 20 years, High Priest started out carefully, and quickly got his sea legs back, playing sets of awesome 70s funk/disco/breakbeats and early 80s club/wave classics, rocking doubles, a bit of scratching, a bit of cutting and a whole lot of great dance music. So you can see why I'm psyched for this saturday! I'm going to open up with some early 80s avant-hip-hop, new wave party classics and block(party) rocking beats as usually and then I'll turn it over to High Priest.
