The Downtown Improvement District (DID) is launching a new event—DROP YOUR AVANT GARDE: Breaking Down the Barriers to the Art World—that will change the way you think about art…and the places where art can be found. Join us for art, live music, food and drink specials, and more as we create four unique art exhibits in unconventional urban spaces.
DROP YOUR AVANT GARDE, the first DID event of 2010, will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 6pm – Midnight. The twist? It will be a multi-venue event incorporating four pop up galleries allowing you to” pop up” anywhere you like throughout the evening!
THE VENUES:
Dash In (814 S. Calhoun)
This exhibit features “Art by Numbers”, a show where artists’ names are omitted and pieces are labeled by number. This intriguing methodology allows you to fully view a painting without being influenced by an artist’s name. Live jazz by the West Central Trio and food and drink specials complete the evening at this venue. (21+ only)
816 Pint & Slice (816 S. Calhoun)
Local graphic artists present The Poster Show featuring band posters and t-shirts created by local designers, many of which will be available for sale. Great beer specials, live music by Samuel Troubadour, an amazing art display upstairs and a family-friendly environment make this a perfect stop on your art tour!
Loaf N Ladle (817 S. Calhoun)
A special black and white photography exhibit featuring pieces by local artist Ryan Hadley will be on display at this trademark downtown venue. Nonalcoholic drinks and food will also be available.
Ryan Hadley Studio (819 S. Calhoun)
This exhibit, called "Dry Illusions," features the work of several nationally known fine artists working in graphite, charcoal and pastel. Live music by Darkroom, a complimentary wine tasting and silent films shown on the wall of the gallery complete this venue’s unique appeal.
This is a brand new event that promises to find the pulse of the urban art scene. For more information, email courtney@downtownfortwayne.com or go to www.downtownfortwayne.com.
