Are you interested in the field of conservation? Would you like to practice field skills that help scientists protect important bird, insect, and amphibian species? Are you curious how cities and towns decide where to build stores and where to protect green space? Join us for a week of conducting field research in different habitats around the sanctuary, using GPS/GIS to monitor and survey key species, designing and completing a stewardship project and meeting Mass Audubon professionals who work to protect land for people and wildlife. You'll also experience a virtual internship, at the office of a fictitious urban and regional planning firm. Applying your understanding of wildlife and their habitats, you'll weigh the trade-offs of land use decisions in ecologically-sensitive areas, interact with virtual stakeholders and use iPlan, a custom-designed Geographic Information System, to develop land use plans for a local site in our watershed. Registration is required. Call 781-259-2200 for details. See http://www.massaudubon.org/catalog/listing.php?program_code=954-DFP11SU1 for more information.
