Durga Pujo- The Homecoming of the Mother October 16, 2007

It's time for yet another year of Goddess Durga. A festival that is celebrated but not thought of. It is the biggest festival of the Bengalis, but what happens after those happy 4 days is probably known by all.
India is known for its rather notoriously glorious past of female foeticide. Infact , it's an understatement to mention past. It is in its present too but we have to strive very hard to not make it the face of the future.
Let us then come forward on the occasion of our grand festival and pledge that we shall spread the word of equality and build a safe, beautiful and happy abode for our sisters, children and mothers. After all it is shameful to live in a nation where Durga the goddess is worshipped but Durga the woman from your neighbourhood killed because of dowry, Durga a mother from a certain village killed for bearing a female child or perhaps another Durga killed even before she could enter this world just like our Mother Durga.
