Houston’s renowned Mitsi Shen, and her daughter, Janie Yao, with the vision of bringing the rich cultures and traditions of China to America, through authentic Chinese dance, founded dance of Asian America in 2001. Greater Houston Weekly previously voted DAA “Best of ALL the Best” for DANCE. Its productions at Miller Outdoor Theatre have one of the highest audience attendances reaching over 6,500 people. DAA was selected as 1 of 11 Best dance Companies presented in the 2009 National Dance USA Conference in Houston and was the only cultural company selected.
