Have you ever seen floating patterns on plain water or letters flowing like a visual poetry?
Join us to engage in Ottoman Culture with live Ebru (water marbling) and Hât (Islamic Calligraphy) performances. Dr.Mehmet Kileci, a prominent artist on Islamic arts and a scholar on Quranic studies from the Netherlands, will be demonstrating live Ebru and Hât for Pittsburghers.
Ebru: Ebru (/abroo) has long been the name given to the authentic Turkic art of water marbling and to the marbled papers produced by the ebru artists.

Hat, Ottoman calligraphy, as the art of hand-writing and by extension, of bookmaking, is part of the Islamic Calligraphy tradition developed in Istanbul. This art form is based on the Arabic script, which for a long time was used by Muslims in their respective languages.

About the artist:
Dr. Kileci is a professor of Quránic Sciences at the Islamic University of Europe, and the director of Rumi Art Academy. He teaches calligraphy and marbling, curates exhibitions, and organize workshops to revive the classical arts in the Netherlands and across Europe.
