Because photography and printmaking are linked at birth, many of the best contemporary artists have successfully combined photographic information with different printmaking techniques. In fact, USF’s landmark fine art printmaking operation, Graphicstudio, offered such key twentieth-century artists as Robert Rauschenberg and Chuck Close the freedom to explore new uses of the photographic image. This exhibition examines how they and others routinely used photography as raw material for adventurous new forms of multimedia expression.
