First Book - McLean County June 11, 2009

First Book of Mclean County is sponsoring a silent auction at Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano in Bloomington. There will be food, drinks and fun had by all!

First Book is an award-winning nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books.
First Book-McLean County has a goal of providing twelve books per year to every child in need in our county. In 2007, we granted 7,926 books benefiting 986 children, but we did not come close to meeting the needs of our community. The number of children living in poverty has grown from 2, 601 in 1999 to over 4,800 in 2005 according to a US Census Bureau, Illinois Poverty Summit report. It would take nearly 60,000 books each year to meet the needs here in Central Illinois! In order to help us reach our goal, we need your support.
