Edwin G. Burrows is Distinguished Professor of History at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. He is the coauthor of Gotham: A History of New York City to 1898, which won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for History. His latest book, Forgotten Patriots: The Untold Story of American Prisoners in the Revolutionary War, was published by Basic Books in November 2008. He will speak on a neglected aspect of the American Revolution, the prisoners of war held by the British during the conflict. He has examined diaries, correspondence, memoirs, newspapers, and pension and government records, including prisoner testimony that past historians have dismissed as American propaganda.
