Free Presentation at UCSF "The Estrogen Elixir: A History of Hormone Replacement Therapy in America" January 24, 2008

In the first complete history of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), Dr. Elizabeth Siegel Watkins, an associate professor in the History of Health Sciences at UCSF, explores the complex and changing relationship between the medical treatment of menopause and cultural conceptions of aging in her new book, “The Estrogen Elixir: A History of Hormone Replacement Therapy in America.” Dr. Watkins will be discussing the role of scientific research – and women as subjects in that research – in the checkered history of estrogen as a medical treatment.
