The 2nd City Art Council Gallery in Long Beach held a wonderful opening this April 26th. A full crowd of people enjoyed the offbeat sounds of Brad Dutz and the Obliteration Quartet. Kim Abeles pulled together a wonderfully interesting show featuring some fantastic works. The show is open for another 2 weeks so there is still a chance to see it.

The Eye Opener award went to Tim Armstrongs’ – Tree Memorials. Image of his work were displayed along with Tim providing an insightful and animated explanation of his process.
His trees are drawn in spilled flour, then sprayed with water and swept back up, leaving the residue to be photographed and eaten by the pigeons, to good effect. According to Tim, long after the image has blown away, the morning mist brings the images back to life.

First Place place went to Milo Cil’s piece titled – “Overview – The US Mexican Border”. Second place went to Wendy Trauth for her piece titled “Dreamer” and third place went to Cheryl Lommatsch for her piece titled “What Fools and Pathetic Heroes are We”.

Other notable pieces were contributed by Michael Hankin, Ken Boland and Eileen Star Moderbacher. The show is open to all until May 22, 2008.
