HAPPY SONGS ABOUT THE WAR, the new musical
one-man show written and performed by San Diego singer/songwriter JD Boucharde, debuts at the 6th@Penn Theatre in Hillcrest, beginning May 25th, 2008.
A dramatic, semi-fictional production, “Happy Songs” uses multi-media, monologue, comedy and a score of original songs to illuminate what the artist believes to be truth of the US involvement in Iraq. More importantly, its message of non-violent communication at every level of human interaction elevates the show above its timely topic of the war.
JD Boucharde, a popular local piano teacher, singer/songwriter, a published poet, Elvis ”channeler” and activist for social and spiritual change, has been an active artist in San Diego’s club scene and in concert since 1992.
JD has been invited to tour his originals in Tokyo,
Memphis and New York.

Wow! Awesome show. Liked the workshop, informal feel. Appreciated the honest, solution focused wrap-up. Honoring the young soldier who many times perceives he/she has no options other than enlisting is a great way to hopefully have more conservatives hear the message. Great pacing, especially since I normally fall asleep in theatrical productions. I didn't even nod off, super rare indeed. Music was crisp, clear and media kept my attention and added a finishing touch. Voice sounded great. Good acting, very believable. Felt like we were chatting and hanging out. I know a lot of people that weren't able to make the dates and are interested in seeing the show. Keep the world posted. We want more! We want more! Long life freedom of speech. I'll definitely attend future shows. What's next?
