Author and medical historian Harriet Washington will discuss her award-winning 2007 book 'Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present.' 'Medical Apartheid,' winner of the 2007 PEN Oakland Award and the 2007 Black Caucus of the American Library Association Award and a finalist for the 2007 Book Critics Circle Award, provides the first comprehensive history of medical experimentation on African-Americans from the slavery era to the notorious 20th century Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment.
