When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six and a half foot rabbit, to the guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium, but she herself is believed to be on the verge of lunacy when she admits to the doctor that after years of living with Elwood and Harvey that she too has seen the big rabbit. After much confusion and comedy, Veta decides she can live with Elwood's delusion and Harvey too. Mary Chase's 1940s Pulitizer Prize winning comedy has become part of the American Theatre and is considered to be one of the finest comedies of the last century.
