Rick Mazeraski opens the show with the resounding strains of the Palace Theater's vintage pipe organ. Quack Moor shares a bit of the history of Hilo's historic Palace Theater before introducing the Palace Theater’s cultural practitioners, Leilehua Yuen and Manu Josiah, who will use chant, hula, and storytelling to take the audience to the leper colony of Kalaupapa where almost 8,000 citizens of Hawai`i were consigned after being diagnosed with leprosy, now known as Hansen's Disease. A short video play by school students explains some of the history, and then Ka `Ohana o Kalaupapa will explain the work they are doing to help the families reconnect.
