The Aurora Public Library Foundation’s annual fundraising reception and auction, set for Oct. 28 at the Eola Road Branch Library, will amaze and delight its guests with a magical theme and a grand unveiling of some of the plans for the new downtown Aurora Public Library.

Brigit Reuland, chair of the Imagine… the possibilities reception and auction, said everything about the evening will be magical, including the food, the strolling magician and the decor.

“Cassidy Alexander, wife of late magician and author David Alexander, has agreed to let us display some magic posters and paraphernalia from Mr. Alexander’s extensive and valuable collection,” Reuland said. “One of Mr. Alexander’s protégés, Jake Prosek, will entertain with magic, and we have enchanting hors d’oeuvres and potions planned as well.”

Development Director Laura Stoney said honorary chairs Neal and Mary Clark Ormond may or may not have any magic up their sleeves the evening of the reception, but they are honored to be part of the event where exciting plans for the future library will be unveiled. Mary Clark Ormond was the director of the Aurora Public Library in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Neal Ormond is the president of the District 129 School Board as well as the “Voice of the West Aurora Blackhawks.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the children’s area of the new Main Library, to be located at the corner of River and Benton streets in downtown Aurora, as well as the children’s areas of the Eola Road and West branches. A groundbreaking ceremony is being tentatively planned for spring, 2012.

Bidders looking for enchanting auction items will have the opportunity to bid on a “magical” time in Disney World, sports memorabilia, trips and many one-of-a-kind items.

The Imagine… the possibilities reception and auction will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 with elegant hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and a silent auction. Tickets are $65 per person. To purchase, call 630-264-4154 or log on to aurorapubliclibraryfoundation.org.
