On to 20th anniversary of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody ANTAR issued a statement criticising the lack of progress and putting forward a range of strategies, including Justice Reinvestment, a program being trialed in a number of U.S. States.

This meeting will discuss this program and evaluate its usefulness in the Australian context? What might the benefits be? What about the risks? Is this something that grass roots activists should get behind?

For some background see Justice Reinvestment: a new solution to the problem of Indigenous over-representation in the criminal justice system: http://www.hreoc.gov.au/about/media/speeches/social_justice/2010/20100320_justice_reinvestment.html

This speech was presented by Mick Gooda, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the ANTaR NSW Seminar - Juvenile Justice Strategy: A Better Way, Sydney Mechanics School of Arts NSW on 20 March 2010
