This evening talk will focus on active management strategies to maintain populations of rare species in the face of human-related threats to their existence. In our increasingly urbanized world, wildlife conservation will increasingly require direct intervention to boost the numbers of declining rare species populations, create or restore wildlife habitat, and create or restore entire populations. Dr. Windmiller will discuss local efforts to intervene on behalf of some of the rare and declining species native to Massachusetts. Note: this talk will provide interesting background information relevant to field trips led by Dr. Windmiller. Attending the talk is NOT a prerequisite for the field trips. See May 22, New Home for Spadefoot Toads and Vernal Pool Ecology on Cape Cod, and June 11, Turtle Ecology at Great Meadows: Restoring the Blanding's Turtle. - - Open to anyone age 16 or older.
