In response to the recent spate of suicides of young members of the LGBT community, Black Hills State University’s 10% Society will be sponsoring a consciousness-rising event on November 16 at 7:00 pm in Club Buzz in the Student Union.
The event will feature activities designed by The Trevor Project, “the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth” and a benefactor of the recent It Gets Better Project. The 10% Society invites all interested parties to attend and participate, especially local LGBT youth, their friends, and their families. Activities will encourage participants to consider the impact that bullying and exclusion have on all young people, not just those in the LGBT community. In addition to these activities led by BHSU students, the event will host local counselors for youth and their families who are struggling with bullying.
The event is free, but donations will be collected for The Trevor Project. If you would like more information about the event, please contact Mary Husemann. Mary.Husemann@bhsu.edu
