This is the first performance by the NOWnet—a hard-swinging, flexibly sized ensemble built in the tradition of CHARLES MINGUS’ JAZZ WORKSHOP and the old Midwest territory bands—since late 2005, and one of a handful of leading up to its formal premiere in October. The performance will feature a slate of new compositions written by Artistic Director (and NOWnet pianist) Jeremy Walker, as well as pieces by NOWnet trumpeter Kelly Rossum and saxophonist Scott Fultz. All works contribute to Jazz is NOW!’s and the NOWnet’s mission: performing adventurous original music that advances the rich history and culture of jazz.
