The City of Austin Public Library’s Recycled Reads is finding creative ways to repurpose books and advance the City’s Go Zero initiative. Since May 2011 the used bookstore has diverted 47 tons from the landfill. Join us as we take a behind the scenes tour of the bookstore and learn the many ways they are recycling ex-Library and donated materials in an ecologically responsible way and making them available to book lovers and educators while raising funds for the Library. During the tour learn how to create book art and jewelry from old books. After the tour, browse the large selection of fiction, business, science, history, hobbies—and more books, as well as a audio books and movies. You can build or enhance your home or classroom library with bargain deals - hard cover books are $2, paperbacks $1, all children’s books fifty-cents, movies from .25 cents to $1. Don’t forget the center is all about recycling so bring your books with you to donate to the cause.
